patchwork portraits
These portraits are a form of 'trompe l'œil' (literally:deceiving the eye); at first glance all you might see is patchwork. Yet, by looking 'through' it you might see and recognise a face; most of the portraits in this gallery are adaptations of iconic images.
Using light and dark areas in a photo, and intensity of colour (rather than the colour itself) in the fabrics, I created images of well-known people, as well as a self-portrait (not quite finished yet). Not unlike 3-D pictures, some people find it takes a while to see the faces. Allow your eyes to relax, and the light and dark areas will shape into faces.
